Kirkcudbright Working Print Studio was established in March 2013 by George and Kim Lowe, initially working from an art gallery in the town. After 15 months in a smaller shop in the High Street, we took on the premises formerly occupied by Hainings Butchers in December 2014. The new premises have given us a much larger shop, a dedicated Training Room and Print Rooms and flexible outside spaces for exhibitions and demonstrations.
Kim inherited an 1880s Model no.3 printing press along with everything needed to print by letterpress, and having done printing as a hobby she developed her work to become a part-time printer, selling at craft fairs and other events under the name The Two Dog Press.
The main focus of our own work is traditional hand printing (letterpress and lino) but we also offer a printing service for businesses, voluntary organisations and individuals. Our regular customers include professional artists and photographers, local voluntary groups, the Borgue Horticultural Society, Carswells (Love Chocolates), Kirkandrews Kirk, and a number of local shops and businesses.
The Studio is an active member and supporter of the British Printing Society.
